Winter Holiday

I haven't been updating this blog regularly. Perhaps I am having writer's block which is perpetuated by the cold temperature of winter season. This condition might be precipitated by not having much interesting activities to be written on the blog. However, I believe there are few protective factors that will protect me from giving up blogging.

power blackout

I was having lunch and noticed that it was extremely windy outside. The weather forecast mentioned that today will be raining. After that, I went to the library and discovered that the light was flickering. Perhaps there was some short circuit somewhere, I thought.

Not long after that, the library went totally dark. An announcement was made that there was power failure in the entire hospital. This is the first time it occurs and it was rare to see total blackout in the hospital. Few of the surgeries were cancelled and the operating theatres had to use emergency generator.

Code brown which stands for disaster plan was activated. My tutorial had to be cancelled and having nothing to do, I went home.

The weather outside once I step out is extremely windy. Many small tree branches have fallen down on the road and traffic light was out. Fortunately, it is not peak time yet and the traffic is not that busy.

academic transcript

I've received my academic transcript from my university today. It shows my mark from the last four years since first semester. Overall, my mark was not stable and it may reflect the way I prepared for the semester exam. Sometimes, I study too much and beyond the scope of the semester, and sometimes I think I study too little. Perhaps I need to be a bit more exam-oriented after this. I have to strive harder to reach good final marks by the end of next year.

On another matter, today's weather was quite hot and I need to switch off my laptop to cool down it a bit. Fortunately, tomorrow weather forecast will be showers. Hopefully it will bring down the temperature around Melbourne.

rainy day

It has been raining for the past few days. Some area even have been flooded [read more]. Not that I am complaining though. Victoria is currently facing severe drought and many areas has been put under severe water restriction. Rain is a blessing for Victorians.

The current enormous clouds has moved from East Australia to New Zealand. It seems like the cloud has gobbled up NZ. Hopefully the people of NZ will be all right :).

Yesterday the weather brought snow to Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart and wild hail storms to southern Queensland.

Melbournians shivered through the coldest November day in more than a decade - a chilly 8C - while some areas of the state recorded the first November snowfalls in 23 years. Much of the east coast was shaking off the effects of a cold snap that saw temperatures plunge across Victoria and heavy snowfalls just a fortnight before the start of summer.

And further north, storms lashed southeast Queensland, cutting power to more than 30,000 homes, as hailstones and gales brought down trees and powerlines, damaging houses and cars.

It was quite cold yesterday. The weather has been quite bizarre lately. Hot days followed by cold days. Sunny and later rain (and even snow too ;)). This must be some sign of global warming, I think...
